The Idols, the band consists of four Canarian veiteañeros led by Edward "Teddy" Bautista , decided to change its name to Los Canarios while on American soil absorbed the essence of soul and rithm'n 'blues that marked his later style.
Once in Spain, released the single "Three, two, one ah!" without much impact, and decided to convert the sound decidedly toward incorporating a fantastic black metal section, quite unusual for bands the time.
The opportunity arises hand film producer Elías Querejeta , who charged them a theme for the new film by Carlos Saura . "Peppermint Frappe" , was the single with which he made known to the public in 1967. Later other ornaments come in a simple format: "Get on your knees" which was a big hit throughout Europe, and "Child" / "Requiem for a soul" (the latter a sweeping tribute to Otis Redding). All tracks produced by Alain Milhaud, who became a producer of fashion, managed to bring bands like The Bravery , The Pop Tops or Canarios themselves to the top of European charts.
However, the Canaries were case apart. Their sound is light years ahead of bands common in English. The influences of black music, and compositions, and especially the spectacular voice of Teddy, took them to be classified in the United Kingdom under the label of northern soul (British soul). As if they were on par with the other bands was the stigma that killed many of them: the military. Hopefully, Los Canarios not disappear, but they changed their registration after the return of Teddy with ideas closer to rock progressive. Just published "Liberate" (Free Yourself) in 1970, his first official Lp (they shared one with the Top Tops, in the form of compilation of singles, a couple of years before), and a great single with the same name.
Later, without Milhaud, posted singles as "Reaction" and "Extra Extra" (1971), and direct Canarios Vivos " (1972). After the group dissolved Teddy Bautista, to consolidate with other musicians later to record "Cycles , a review of " The Four Seasons "by Vivaldi with synthesizers and progressive arrangements, which moved away permanently from the black spirit that characterized the original Canarios.
Los Canarios are my favorite band of English pop classic. His legacy is brief but very intense. In my house there was always a original single "Get on your knees" that I adore. Over time I discovered it means "kneel" and tells the story of fellatio although the little phrase used to refer to kneel in church to pray. Glad you did not know Franco's censors any English, let alone black music. Gradually I've been doing with original copies of their singles, and each time I see on TV Teddy hover with their taxes, and fees, I wonder why he has never appeared a CD with songs by Los Canarios properly remastered and a booklet full of information that for me is definitely the best band in the history of English pop.
So there is no choice but to pirate everything, to share with everyone.
